We are a very small rabbitry and plan to stay that way. We have a few select quality rabbits.
We feel that staying small we can monitor more closely our rabbits and have more one on one time with them. That's the plan. Check back in a couple years to see if they have changed. SMILES

ABOUT: the Silver Fox Rabbit.


The Silver Fox rabbit is the third breed developed in the United States.
It was created by Walter B. Garland of North Canton, Ohio. 
Today the Silver Fox is said to be one of the rarest rabbit breeds in America,
and is considered threatened by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy.



  • 1925 the breed was accepted by the ARBA
  • the Silver Fox was originally the American Heavyweight Silver
  • the Silver Fox is truly a multi-purpose breed,
  • raised for meat and fur.
  •  are known for their docile and gentle nature.
  • young are born either solid black or blue
  • show silvering of their fur at about 4 weeks.
  • silvering process takes 4 months to complete.
  • fur is one of the most attractive and unusual features of the breed.
  • fur is extremely dense
  • fur is 1 1/2 to 2 inches in length.
  • when fur is stroked from tail to head, it'll stand straight up until stroked down.
  • this trait is found in no other breed
  • fur greatly resembles the pelt of the silver fox of the Artic.
  • was the first large breed that dressed out at 65% of its live weight.
  • has large litters,
  • produce plenty of milk,
  • are excellent mothers,
  • make wonderful foster mothers,
  • enjoy attention and handling,
  • are easy to pose. 
  • Currently only black Silver Foxes can be shown,
  • Come in a variety of colors, such as blue, chocolate, lilac.

You want a rounded top on left. Right rabbit is flat.

TERMS:

Junior: a rabbit under 6 months of age.

Intermediate or 6/8: A rabbit between 6-8 months of age

Senior: a rabbit over 6 months of age.

MOLT:

The brownish patches on Silver Fox's is old fur in the process of molting out.
